iciHaiti - Agriculture : Minister Sévère determined to develop protected agriculture
Patrix Sévère, the Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR) is determined to develop greenhouse farming in Haiti, also called protected agriculture https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-8960-haiti-agriculture-the-greenhouses-revolution.html

The Minister Sévère underlines "This form of production is already tested in several communes of the department of the West. We can practice all kinds of cultures in these structures but we put the emphasis especially on cucumber, tomato and papaya."

The results are so important that Minister Sévère plans to duplicate these structures almost everywhere in the country, especially in dry areas like the Lower North-West and especially Savane-Désolée in the Artibonite department.

According to Jean Élie Philogène, Departmental Agricultural Director of the West "[...] one of the great advantages of greenhouse production is that all the parameters of production are controlled and allow cultivation out of seaso," stressing "for certain commodities like cucumber, the production cycle can reach up to 11 months continuously."
