iciHaiti - Agriculture : Distribution of agricultural inputs to revive the sector

Evens Lorméus, President of the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Lower Artibonite informed that the Government had started the distribution of agricultural inputs, as part of the plan to stimulate this sector and fight hunger after the negative impact of Covid-19, ensuring that 49 Associations will be beneficiaries under the Artibonite Basin Water Collection Program.

As part of this distribution, farmers will receive some 14,000 bags of rice seeds and fertilizers, as well as equipment for plowing the land which aims to increase agricultural production by 12%, and to make food available of the population in the short, medium and long term.

A dozen solar pumps capable of producing 900 to 1,200 gallons of water per day (out of 40) are currently operational and Jovenel Moïse, as part of the agricultural revival promises that more than 15,000 hectares of land will be irrigated in 2020 by using 150 solar powered pumps https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-29898-icihaiti-agriculture-moise-promises-150-solar-pumps-for-irrigation.html
