iciHaiti - DR : Reopening of binational markets
Wednesday July 14, 2021, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, the Director of the General Directorate of Customs, declared that from this day, the binational markets with Haiti will resume functioning "For humanitarian reasons, we want to open this commercial artery toward Haiti."

On the other hand, he indicated that they had several working sessions with the Haitian customs authorities to try to help them in the collection of their taxes recalling that the Haitian economy is very informal and therefore tends to avoid paying taxes.

He recalled that on Tuesday the Dominican Government, through the Security and National Defense Council, decided to authorize for humanitarian reasons the resumption of exports to Haiti in order to maintain the supply of the Haitian trade system at the levels required to reduce the possibility of a general shortage which would produce the possible increase in irregular migratory flows due to the political and social instability produced by the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse "The sustainability of security depends a lot on the normalization of exchanges between the two countries. Haitian citizens need Dominican agricultural and agro-industrial products to meet their needs."
