iciHaiti - Canada : Two military coastal defense vessels in Haitian waters
The two Canadian coastal defense military vessels announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have arrived off the coast of Haiti.
Thursday March 2, 2023, Anita Anand the Canadian Minister of Defense confirmed their presence and specified "HMCS Glace Bay (MM701) and Moncton (MM 708) have arrived in the region. The ships will conduct presence patrols in and around Haitian waters over the coming weeks – contributing to our maritime situational awareness and bolstering efforts to establish and maintain security for Haitians" she said.
These are two ships with a length of 55.31 meters of 970 tons, can move at a speed of 15 knots (27.78 km/h) and have a range of 5,000 km. They are armed with a Bofors 40mm/60 Mk 5C autocannon and 2 x Browning M2 machine guns.
