iciHaiti - Mexico : 887 Haitians regularized for humanitarian reasons in less than a month

The Mexican Institute of Migration (INM) informs that since the beginning of April 2023, 1,360 foreigners from 21 countries have received regularization documents. 887 of them (65%) were from Haiti.

INM said the group included 110 migrants from Chile (all minors), 71 from Afghanistan, 49 from Angola, 41 from Brazil, 22 from Ecuador, 15 from El Salvador and 14 from the Dominican Republic, the other countries (Honduras, Colombia, Cuba, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Guyana, Congo, Bolivia, Argentina, Nicaragua, Peru and Guatemala) had less than 10 nationals.

This regularization allows migrants to work and stay in Mexico for one year. It also prevents recipients from seeking asylum in the United States in the future.

The admitted migrants were transferred to a temporary shelter at the town hall of Tláhuac for regularization.
