iciHaiti - Environment : Important meeting of the CPT on the response to the hurricane season
Thursday June 13, 2024, Prime Minister Garry Conille, as Minister of the Interior and Territorial Communities, took part in a working session with members of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) around preparations for the season of hurricanes 2024, which promises to be higher than normal https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-42399-haiti-flash-noaa-predicts-a-hurricane-season-above-normal.html

This session provided an opportunity to discuss the plans, strategies and specific needs of the System, in order to protect the population, in emergency situations with the various actors involved in risk management, notably the Civil Protection Directorate (DPC) and the representatives of humanitarian agencies in Haiti.

On the agenda, several important points were discussed, highlighting the strategies and measures to be adopted in order to minimize the consequences of major natural hazards on the population. During the discussions, participants stressed the importance of effective coordination between all stakeholders and the rapid implementation of preventive actions.

Among the topics covered, emphasis was placed on :

• Updating evacuation plans and emergency accommodation centers • Strengthening vulnerable infrastructure to withstand bad weather

• Raising awareness and informing the population on the behaviors to adopt in the event of a cyclone alert

• Coordination with humanitarian organizations for a rapid and effective response.
