iciHaiti - Security : The diplomatic activities of the Bahamas will resume in Haiti
Fred Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bahams said the Ministerial Cabinet had approved the return of diplomatic personnel to Haiti, evacuated in March 2024 when security conditions deteriorated due to gang violence.

The Bahamas Embassy in Haiti has 11 local employees and 9 diplomatic staff.

However, he informed that the owner of the building housing the Bahamian embassy wanted to sell his building and Bahamian officials were looking for new premises.

Regarding the arrival of Bahamian Defense Force officers to join the Kenyan-led Mission, Fred Mitchell responded "[...] They are [the kenyan] the ones who are in operational control and command so, the question of what the mission is, and the specifics of it would have to be left to them and the relationship between the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and the Kenyans and, of course, the Haitian government” without giving a date.

He recalled that the Davis administration has committed to sending 150 officers of the Royal Bahamas Defense Force to join the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti, specifying that Bahamian officers will contribute to maritime security.
