The Grand’Anse Departmental Directorate of the Ministry of the Environment recently organized an awareness day in the commune of Corail, focusing on the protection of mangroves and the fight against marine pollution by plastic waste. This activity brought together various local stakeholders, including the Corail City Hall, the Haitian Red Cross, the Dutch Red Cross, as well as representatives of several community organizations.

This initiative is part of the priorities of Minister Moise Fils Jean Pierre, who attaches great importance to the protection of marine ecosystems.

The day began with an awareness conference on the crucial role of mangroves, the principles of their management and conservation. This session was followed by the planting of more than 2,000 seedlings in this coastal commune of Grand’Anse.

This day is part of the closing, scheduled for August 22, 2024, of the "Green Pearl" project / Jesyon Entegre Litoral ak Ekosistem Maren (JELEM) led by the Haitian Red Cross in collaboration with the Netherlands Red Cross in the municipalities of Corail, Pestel and the Cayemites Islands.
