iciHaiti - Agriculture : Taiwan introduces the «Red Lady» papaya to Haiti

The International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) technical mission in Tainan, Taiwan, in collaboration with the Haitian Ministry of Agriculture, established a demonstration farm on unused land in southern Haiti, introducing high-quality Taiwanese fruit and vegetable varieties.

The project aims to improve crop diversity, increase farmer incomes, and improve local nutrition.

One of the main crops is the Red Lady papaya, a resilient Taiwanese variety that thrived in Haiti’s harsh agricultural conditions, yielding a successful harvest in October. These fragrant and sweet papayas sold well in the local market, increasing farmers’ incomes while enriching the community’s nutritional options.

With Haiti’s limited supply of fruits and vegetables and worsening food security due to instability, this collaboration is essential to drive positive change in Haiti’s agricultural development.
