iciHaïti - Youth : Great day of socio-recreational activities
As announced, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action (MJSAC) celebrated the traditional Christmas celebration by organizing a large day of socio-recreational activities for young people on December 24, 2024 on Place Boyer (Pétion-ville) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43910-haiti-news-zapping.html , as part of the Government's social appeasement program.

This event brought together hundreds of young people from the neighborhoods of the commune of Pétion-ville between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Supervised by technicians from the West Departmental Directorate of the Ministry and civic action brigadiers, they had fun, through social and sporting activities such as sack and egg races, dance and song competitions, apple croque and musical chairs games, three-point shooting competitions (basketball), mini athletics competitions, football (tikan) and aerobics sessions.

During a press briefing, Niola Lynn Sarah Dévalis Octavius, the Minister of Youth, declared "During this festive period, we want life to return to normal because insecurity tends to confine young people at home in anxiety and fear," describing the young participants as "[...] heroes who braved so many obstacles to come run, play and have fun on this occasion [...]"

The Minister indicated "Only the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince benefited from this day of socio-recreational activities. However, 15 other sites across the country organized football and basketball championships," emphasizing "all of these activities are part of the social appeasement program implemented by the Government."

As for the competitions that took place, the champions and vice-champions received various rewards including bonuses, medals and trophies.
