Following the attack by armed individuals on December 24, 2024 at the State University of Haiti hospital, commonly known as the "General Hospital", which left 4 dead, including 2 journalists and 1 police officer, and 10 injured, including 4 in serious condition https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-43943-icihaiti-insecurity-attack-on-general-hospital-death-toll-rises.html , Patrick Pelissier, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, set up a Commission to monitor the support of victims and their parents or dependents in accordance with the commitments made by the Prime Minister https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43928-haiti-flash-the-government-takes-care-of-the-victims-of-the-attack-on-the-general-hospital.html
Composition of this Commission :
- 1 representative of the journalists' union
- 2 representatives of the police unions
- 1 lawyer at the Port-au-Prince bar
- 1 representative of the Office for the Protection of Citizens (OPC) as an observer
The Commission is coordinated by the representative of the journalists' union.
This decision by the Minister of Justice is a measure of due diligence as part of the government's response to these events.
