On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Pierre Canisius Guignard, Director General of the Ministry of the Interior and Local Authorities, led a delegation composed of Dionel Germain, Departmental Delegate for the Northeast, Luma Demetrius, Mayor of Ounaminthe, Mallew Étienne, Director of Local Authorities, and representatives of the European Union in Haiti, the main donor of the project, visited the construction site of the Binational Market in Ouanaminthe.

This inspection visit aimed to ensure the smooth progress of the works, intended to boost trade between the Republic of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Guignard discussed with the members of the delegation and the project managers the need for these infrastructures to comply with relevant norms and standards. He also emphasized the corrections that need to be made so that these commercial infrastructures bring honor and pride to Haitian merchants and entrepreneurs.

Furthermore, the discussions focused on the necessary measures to be adopted to improve the control of migratory flows and equitably promote the economic development of the two countries in this border region.
