iciHaiti - Dom. Republic : Screening of foreign patients begins in 33 public hospitals
Following President Luis Abinader's announcement on April 6, 2025, of a series of measures aimed at strengthening immigration control and ensuring Dominican sovereignty faced the Haitian crisis, one of these measures, concerning hospital care for foreigners in Dominican public hospitals, came into effect on Monday, April 21, 2025.

The Government has begun implementing the immigration screening protocol in 33 strategic public hospitals to organize care for foreign patients, ensure compliance with current regulations, and contribute to the sustainability of the hospital system.

Inspectors and agents will verify that all foreign patients have the following documents : Official identification; a letter of employment in the country; proof of residence; and that they cover the cost of the services received. Those who do not meet the required conditions will be repatriated upon recovery, in strict compliance with due process and human rights.

This protocol was previously shared with hospital health and security personnel, in coordination with the National Health Service (SNS), to ensure effective, humanitarian, and technical implementation.
