iciHaiti - Cap-Haitien : Pre-deployment of a mural in New Orleans
Yvrose Pierre, Mayor of Cap-Haitien, made an official visit to New Orleans as part of the pre-unveiling of a major mural (currently under construction) celebrating the historical and cultural ties between the two cities https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-43881-icihaiti-fresco-new-orleans-competition-winners-2-haitian-artists-selected.html

This work, the result of a collaboration between Haitian artists Blondel Joseph and Ronel Marcellus, based on a design by Guylin Marcellus, illustrates the unity, collective memory, and Creole heritage shared between Cap-Haitien and New Orleans.

This pre-unveiling took place on May 1st, 2025, in the heart of the French Market in the French Quarter, in the presence of official delegations from both municipalities, representatives of the Haitian diaspora, and project partners.

This mural showcases powerful symbols of our shared history, such as Anténor Firmin, Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, the Citadelle Laferrière, Saint-Louis Cathedral, Voodoo vévés, carnival, and music, testifying to the richness of our culture and our shared struggles.

In her speech, Mayor Yvrose Pierre praised this initiative as a powerful gesture of cultural diplomacy, emphasizing the importance of shared memory and solidarity between our two peoples. She thanked the artists, the initiative's partners, including Twin Sisters Reunited, as well as all those who contributed to this achievement.

Should be notes that the inauguration of this mural will take place on May 18, to mark the 222nd anniversary of the creation of the Haitian flag. This date is also recognized by the City of New Orleans as Haiti Recognition and Appreciation Day, according to an official proclamation from Mayor LaToya Cantrell.
