The Ministry of Justice and Public Security announces the interception and seizure of a speedboat heavily laden with drugs, early in the morning of Sunday, July 13, 2025, off the coast of Turtle Island (Île de la Tortue).

During this major operation, led by Acting Superintendent Jeir Pierre and conducted jointly by officers from the Drug Trafficking Brigade (BLTS) and the Departmental Law Enforcement Unit (UDMO), 1,045 kilos of cocaine, distributed in 49 bags, were seized, while three Bahamian citizens were killed in a shootout with police.

The Bahamas Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fred Mitchell, confirmed that his ministry had been informed of the deaths, but indicated that authorities were still awaiting further details.
