iciHaiti - DR : Councilor Smith Agustin, Dominican version

Following the spread of false information online regarding the supposedly fraudulent entry into the Dominican Republic of Smith Agustin, a member of the Presidential Transitional Council and former Haitian ambassador to the Dominican Republic, followed by a denial in Haiti by the Presidency https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45504-haiti-news-zapping.html , the Directorate General of Migration (DGM), in order to put an end to speculation and the dissemination of false information, clearly explains the facts in a press release.

"[...] Mr. Smith entered Dominican territory through the pedestrian crossing at the Dajabón border crossing at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025, shortly after the binational border crossing closed. After arriving at the Dajabón binational border crossing, Haitian Vice Consul Levaux Herns noted that the biometric registration protocol established as part of our migration control procedures could not be completed. Given this situation, he was summoned the following day by Dominican migration authorities to finalize the procedure. Mr. Smith and his entourage kindly arrived at the Dajabón border crossing at 11:12 a.m. on Friday, August 1sr, 2025, while DGM employees were supervising activities and operations at the border crossing.

DGM representatives, after contacting Mr. Smith, explained that his request was to complete the biometric protocol required for his entry into the country.

The Haitian official understood the reason for his request and apologized, immediately proceeding to complete the existing procedures. Once the situation was clarified, Mr. Smith received his travel documents and was authorized to continue his transit through the Dominican Republic."
