Since the beginning of September, the municipality of Pétion-ville has recorded a significant increase in cholera cases, accompanied by a growing number of deaths in the community.

Faced with this worrying situation and to prevent the spread to other municipalities, the Ministry of Public Health and its partners, including the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), have intensified their surveillance and response efforts, given the complex security and health context in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area.

As part of this effort, a joint visit by PAHO/WHO and the Ministry of Public Health's Western Health Directorate was conducted at the Pèlerin 5 water point to assess the progress of the rehabilitation work undertaken by the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA).

The team also visited the Thomassin 25 Health Center to assess the cholera case management structure and discuss with staff the needs for medical supplies and institutional water, hygiene, and sanitation (WASH).
