iciHaiti - CPT : Message from outgoing Councilor Emmanuel Vertilaire

"Dear fellow citizens,

By virtue of the Political Agreement of April 3rd, 2024, and the decrees establishing the creation, organization, and operating procedures of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT), I have been called upon to serve on said Council, with voting rights.

This high mission, carried out collectively with the other members of the CPT, was part of a specific mandate: to restore national security, recreate the institutional conditions necessary for the organization of free, fair, and democratic elections, and ensure the transfer of power, on February 7, 2026, to a democratically elected President, in order to allow the Haitian nation to return to constitutional order and the democratic ideals severely shaken since the despicable assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, perpetrated in his private residence on the night of July 6-7, 2021. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34162-haiti-flash-president-jovenel-moise-assassinated-by-mercenaries-official-updated-7am-+-video.html

With clarity and a sense of responsibility, I acknowledge today that, despite sustained efforts, sacrifices made, and unwavering commitment… While acting in the best interests of the Nation, the assigned objectives could not be fully achieved.

Faithful to the principles of republican legality and scrupulous respect for the rule of law, on February 7, 2026, marking the end of the CPT's mandate, I will peacefully retire from my duties, with the serene awareness of having acted with loyalty and a sense of duty.

This experience, lived at the highest level of the State, has allowed me to grasp with renewed depth the complexity of our socio-political reality, as well as the magnitude of the structural, institutional, and human challenges that our beloved Haiti continues to face. I express my profound gratitude to all those who accompanied, supported, and encouraged me throughout this difficult journey.

I remain convinced that, despite the trials, Haiti will rise again."

Emmanuel Vertilaire Member of the CPT
