iciHaiti - Council of Ministers : The Minister of Finance dismissed

On Saturday, February 7, immediately following the ceremony marking the end of the mandate of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) and in accordance with Article 28.1 of the decree of May 27, 2024, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé chaired an extraordinary Council of Ministers meeting dedicated to reviewing national priorities and making urgent decisions to ensure the continuity of the State, security, and stability of the country.

This meeting took place in the presence of the Secretary General of the Presidency, reflecting a commitment to guaranteeing the administrative continuity of the State.

During this Council of Ministers meeting, Alfred Métellus, the Minister of Finance, was dismissed, and Didier Fils-Aimé was appointed interim Minister of Finance. A draft decree establishing a single-headed executive branch was signed. This approach represents an institutional turning point, as it formalizes the exercise of executive power by the government team in the absence of a head of state.

Draft decrees establishing a municipal commission in the municipalities of Port-au-Prince, Pétion-ville, and Gressier, tasked with managing the interests of these municipalities until the next elections, have been reviewed. These changes are part of a provisional governance strategy designed to prevent any gridlock at the municipal level.
