iciHaiti - Justice : Rape of a minor student broadcast in a video on social media

The Office of Citizen Protection (OPC) notes with profound indignation the circulation on social media of a video showing a schoolgirl in uniform being raped.

According to information received by the institution, the alleged perpetrator of this assault, not content with targeting a minor, filmed the scene before posting the video on social media, with the clear intention of violating the victim's dignity, humiliating her, and causing her serious moral and social harm.

Faced with this particularly revolting situation, which violates the fundamental rights of children, the Office of Citizen Protection calls for the immediate action of the Brigade for the Protection of Minors (BPM) so that all necessary measures are taken to ensure the victim's protection and guarantee her appropriate assistance.

The Office of Citizen Protection (OPC) also urges the competent judicial police officers to undertake, without delay, all necessary investigations to identify, locate, and apprehend the perpetrator of this crime, as well as any person who participated, directly or indirectly, in its commission or the dissemination of this video, so that they may be brought before the judicial authorities in accordance with the law.

Furthermore, the Office invites citizens to cooperate with the police by providing any information that could contribute to the identification and location of the perpetrator, including their identity, address, the location where the alleged incident occurred, and the page or account used to disseminate this video on digital platforms.

The OPC reiterates that the protection of children is a fundamental obligation of the State and society. The Office reaffirms its commitment to ensuring respect for and protection of children's rights in Haiti and calls for collective action to end these unacceptable acts of violence that threaten the future of Haitian youth.
