Les Cayes : The Prime Minister visits the dialysis unit of the OFATMA Hospital

On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, during his tour of the South Department, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé visited the hospital of the Office of Occupational Accident, Illness, and Maternity Insurance (OFATMA). Accompanied by members of the government and health sector officials, he toured the dialysis unit, essential for the survival of many patients suffering from kidney failure.

The Prime Minister visited the facilities and spoke with medical staff and patients who had come to receive life-saving care. This visit allowed him to observe the challenges facing the center, as well as the efforts being made to maintain a functional service despite limited resources.

The center has four dialysis machines, a number still insufficient given the growing needs in the department. However, this capacity was recently strengthened thanks to a donation in March 2026 of two dialysis machines from American donor Scott Martin https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-47160-les-cayes-major-donation-of-medical-equipment-from-the-united-states.html

The Prime Minister welcomed both this crucial support and the dedication of the healthcare staff, who ensure continuity of care daily, often under demanding conditions. He reaffirmed the State's commitment to continuing efforts to strengthen the center's capacity and improve access to specialized care.
