Cap-Hatien : Interministerial Emergency Mission 30/04/2026 10:47:48
On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, in Cap-Haïtien, angry residents took to the streets in several neighborhoods at the southern entrance to the city. Among their demands were the dredging of canals and ravines to prevent flooding, and the rehabilitation of National Road 1, which connects Cap-Haïtien to Limbe. The demonstrations intensified, and barricades were erected on several strategic roads using shipping containers, trucks, trailers, garbage, and burning tires. Schools in the southern part of the city were closed for the day, and economic activity was severely disrupted. On the Prime Minister's instructions, the Ministry of Public Works (MTPTC) joined forces with the Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT) and the Ministry of the Environment to conduct a coordinated emergency response. This joint mission, led by the Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT), reflects a commitment to cross-sectoral collaboration in order to effectively address the challenges currently facing the department. The deployment aims to tackle critical issues related to infrastructure, local governance, civil security, and environmental protection. The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPTC) remains fully mobilized with its technicians and equipment to provide a concrete response to the urgent needs of the people of Cap-Haïtien.
