Elections : CEP/UNDP capacity building workshop in Haiti

On Friday, May 22, 2026, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), in conjunction with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP-Haiti), the principal manager of the funds allocated to electoral operations, organized a capacity-building and integration workshop for the electoral institution's staff.

This working day had two objectives :

1 - To harmonize knowledge on the main operational aspects of the Project to Support the Electoral Process in Haiti (PAPEH), including project governance, procurement procedures, payment methods, partnership mechanisms, and accountability;

2 - To strengthen collaboration and cohesion among the CEP's technical teams.

In his remarks, Jacques Desrosiers, the President of the CEP, emphasized the Haitian people's desire to emerge from the multidimensional crisis that has plagued the country for far too long. He reiterated that holding credible elections is an essential step toward rectifying the situation.

Furthermore, Desrosiers acknowledged that holding transparent and credible elections largely depends on effective coordination between the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which manages the financial aspects of the electoral operations. According to him, this synergy must be achieved through good communication and a better understanding of the procedures by stakeholders in both institutions.

For his part, Xavier Michon, UNDP Resident Representative in Haiti, emphasized the importance of communication as a key lever for strengthening relations between the CEP and its technical and financial partners.
