Dominican Republic : Over US$563 Million Exported to Haiti in 5 Months

According to the report on trade between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, prepared by the General Directorate of Customs (DGA), Dominican exports to Haiti totaled US$563.14 million between January and May 2026 (5 months), representing a 24.64% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Conversely, Dominican purchases from Haiti plummeted by 91.50% to US$0.35 million.

The report specifies that exports under the national regime increased by 76.55%, exports from free trade zones by 14.83%, temporary admission by 5.01%, and the remaining 3.61% under the re-export regime. The report explains that exports under the national regime increased by 41.02%, while those from free trade zones declined by 28.41%. The document does not specify the reasons for this decline.

During the first five months of the year, 82.74% of Dominican exports to Haiti under the free trade zone consisted of products such as T-shirts, undershirts, knitwear, cotton fabrics, as well as plastic items, bottle caps, and caps. Meanwhile, 56.73% of the main exported products under the national regime were forged and rolled non-alloy iron or steel bars, hydraulic cements, and wheat or mixed grain flour.

Imports under the discharge-to-consumer regime registered a negative change of 25.86%, and those from the free trade zones plummeted by 96.56%. The report does not explain the factors behind these reductions.
