Strengthening the justice system to guarantee democracy and elections in Haiti

On Friday, June 26, 2026, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, accompanied by the Minister of Justice, Patrick Pélissier, chaired a strategic workshop bringing together magistrates from the Specialized Judicial Unit for the Repression of Mass Crimes and Sexual Violence and those from the Specialized Judicial Unit for the Repression of Complex Financial Crimes and Offenses. The workshop was attended by the highest judicial authorities and key international partners committed to strengthening the justice system in Haiti.

The discussions focused on the operationalization of the specialized units, the handling of priority cases, the strengthening of their institutional framework, and the resources needed to guarantee a more effective, independent, and credible justice system.

During this workshop, the technical and financial partners reaffirmed their support for the Government, particularly through capacity building for magistrates, training forensic pathologists, and the rehabilitation of the Institute of Forensic Medicine.

In his address, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the magistrates for their commitment to serving the Republic and reaffirmed his government's determination to improve their working conditions and compensation. He also emphasized that there can be no democracy, security, or credible elections without a strong, independent, and fully operational judiciary.
