Education : A look at the official CEF exams in Haiti 08/07/2026 10:09:03
479 candidates participated this year in the State Examinations of the Family Education Center (CEF) from June 29 to July 3rd, 2026. These official exams cover three types of skills : • Basic skills (Mathematics, French, Creole, General Knowledge); • Life skills (Home economics, Family education, Hygiene, Childcare, Nutrition); • Vocational skills (Cutting/Sewing, Embroidery, Cooking, Pastry making, Bar/Restaurant service). The first part of the exams focuses on basic and life skills. The second part is reserved for more demonstrative disciplines. For cutting/sewing, candidates prepare patterns, make garments, and model their creations before a specially assembled jury. For cooking, they prepare dishes and organize the presentation. The dishes are tasted by evaluators who then assign grades to the candidates. It is worth recalling that the first Family Education Center opened its doors in 1948 in Marbial, in southeastern Haiti, as part of a cooperation between the Haitian government and UNESCO. Initially, the CEF was intended for people who had never attended school or those who had dropped out. Today, a wider public is interested in the CEF, including young people who have earned their baccalaureate. The CEF offers young people and adults a three-year basic education and vocational training program, culminating in a certification exam. See also : IH/ iciHaiti
