Grande-Rivière-du-Nord : The emergency archaeological mission continues 17/07/2026 09:23:49
Erol Josué, Director General of the National Bureau of Ethnology (BNE), Joseph Sony Jean (archaeologist), and the BNE technical team, including Assedius Belizaire (Museum Curator and Acting Technical Director), Jean Junior Théodore (Archaeologist), Corneille Saint Fleur (Archaeologist), and Ingrid Crepin Mie Cassielle (Technical Secretary), are continuing the emergency archaeological mission in Grande-Rivière-du-Nord. The mission focuses on the analysis, documentation, and initial conservation measures for the collection of ancient weapons discovered during the excavation of a septic tank in the courtyard of the Conservative Baptist Church. The BNE is working in collaboration with municipal authorities to ensure that this collection is preserved and promoted according to scientific principles and standards for the management of archaeological heritage. For the National Archaeology Bureau (BNE), this discovery is not merely archaeological; it represents an opportunity to launch new ethnographic and archaeological research on Grande-Rivière-du-Nord's contribution to Haitian history. It also revives the vision of establishing a Heritage Interpretation Center in the municipality and developing educational programs on heritage and archaeology for the residents of Grande-Rivière-du-Nord. Protecting heritage means protecting the memory of the people. See also : https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-47997-archaeological-discovery-in-haiti-emergency-mission.html IH/ iciHaiti
