The marking of the Baccalaureate candidates' papers is underway

On July 21, 2026, a meeting was held at the Saint-Louis de Gonzague Institution (Delmas 31, 33) with supervisors from the West Department regarding the process of marking baccalaureate exam papers.

This meeting, chaired by the Director General of the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), provided an opportunity to identify challenges in order to better plan this operation.

Professor Osny Jean Marie was accompanied by the Chief of Staff to Minister Vijonet Déméro, Professor Ecclésiaste Télémaque, the Director of Secondary Education, Miguel Fleurijan, the Coordinator of the Departmental Directorates of Education (DDE), Jean Ernest Clergé, the Departmental Director of Education for the West Department, Etienne Louisseul France, and Frantz Jean, one of his deputies.

Rigour, impartiality, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility v:

From the outset, the Director General promised to ensure that the marking process would not exceed about eight days.

Osny Jean Marie reiterated certain principles that should guide the markers "Fairness and justice are fundamental principles in marking state exam papers. They require that each candidate be evaluated according to the same criteria, in strict compliance with the established marking schemes and guidelines, regardless of their school, social background, or any other consideration unrelated to the quality of their work," he stated.

For his part, Télémaque, the Minister’s Chief of Staff, believes that proper organization of this work is essential. This requires reasonable hours, appropriate breaks, and a balanced distribution of papers to combat fatigue and maintain the markers’ concentration. Such conditions contribute to a rigorous, objective, and efficient marking process, while also strengthening its credibility and integrity.

Miguel Fleurijan, the Director of Secondary Education, emphasized the professional quality of the examiners, most of whom are experienced teachers. "The quality of the examiners is a determining factor in the success and credibility of the state exams. It is essential to entrust the marking of papers to experienced and competent teachers who have a thorough understanding of the subjects and the established assessment criteria. [...] Beyond academic knowledge, examiners must demonstrate rigor, impartiality, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility. A preliminary harmonization session is planned to ensure a uniform understanding of the marking schemes and guidelines. The selection of qualified examiners thus ensures a fair, objective, and consistent assessment of each candidate's performance," he continued.

In the end, Frantz Jean, one of the assistants to the Departmental Director of Education for the West, gave assurances that the supervisors and examiners would work in an environment conducive to their tasks.

Marking Process :

The marking process for the state exam papers has begun across the ten Departmental Directorates of Education (DDE). It includes several stages :

- Stapling/Unstapling;

- Removing the stapling;

- Standardizing the marking of the papers;

- Grading;

- Data entry;

- Data processing (verification);

- Publication of results.
