Towards the repair of the Saut-Mathurin hydroelectric power plant 14/08/2026 09:59:57
As part of a technical inspection tour in the Great South region, the Minister of Public Works, engineer Joseph Amathe Pierre Louisle, visited the Saut-Mathurin hydroelectric power plant, located in the municipality of Camp-Perrin. The plant, inaugurated in 1983 on the Cavaillon River in Camp-Perrin, has a capacity of 2.4 megawatts. It suffered serious damage during the August 2021 earthquake, impacting its electricity production. The Minister's visit aimed to conduct a thorough assessment of key energy infrastructure in order to optimize electricity distribution. Accompanied by the site's engineers and technicians, the Minister observed that the power plant is currently operating at only half of its total capacity. Faced with this situation, the Minister emphasized the government's firm commitment to restoring this strategic infrastructure to full operational status as quickly as possible. Following the visit, direct instructions were given to the technical staff of the Ministry of Public Works and Electricity of Haiti (EDH). A priority intervention plan will be rapidly deployed to carry out the necessary repairs and restore all the turbines to service. IH/ iciHaiti
