After Petit-Trou de Nippes, Petit-Goâve, Mare-Rouge and Saint-Raphaël, the National Ministry of Education, this week opened the Technical Higher Education Centers (CEST) of Thiotte (South-East) and that of Dame-Marie (Grande-Anse).

Professor Jean-Robert Dossaint, Strategic Advisor to Vijonet Déméro Minister of National Education, was responsible for presiding over the opening ceremonies of these centers. On these two occasions, he was accompanied by Joram Vixamar, President of the Council of Rectors of Departmental Public Universities, Magdala Jean-Baptiste Rectrice of the Public University of the South-East in Jacmel, Jean Rony Médy Rector of the Public University of Grand-Anse and Joël Michel Rector of the Public University of the North-West in Port-de-Paix.

According to the Strategic Advisor to the Minister of National Education, the opening ceremonies of these centers are far from being just administrative formalities. Rather, they mark the beginning of new relationships between higher education and the territories. Councilor Dossaint highlighted the importance of this initiative which aims to make higher education accessible to young people living outside the departmental metropolises. He suggested that the CESTs of Thiotte and Dame-Marie, like all the others, must prove to be components "of a broader whole, making it possible to bring higher education closer to the needs of the communities and to promote better articulation between knowledge, skills and territorial development."

Joram Vixamar recognizes that with the creation of the CESTs, the Haitian State, through the Ministry and the Departmental Public Universities (UPD), seeks to respond to a major challenge, that of the deconcentration of technical higher education. In this sense, he warmly congratulated Minister Déméro who courageously, but with vision, carries such an initiative.

Rector Magdala Jean-Baptiste, and her colleague Jean Rony Médy, agreed. They returned to the fundamentals of the vocation of these Centers: training of qualified human resources, strengthening of applied research and development of service centers for local communities.
