The Historian Ady Jean Gardy https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-13771-haiti-culture-ady-jean-gardy-receives-the-grand-prize-international-of-history.html declared last week on a TV station of the capital about Haiti's debt "I did some research on the issue of debt, if today it is assumed that there was 150 million gold francs that Haiti would have paid, it would now be 17 billion Euros. We must be clear, there has been a misreading of history because Haiti, had paid immediately to the signing of the agreement with Charles X, 30 million gold francs, money that Haiti had been borrowed from Bank of France.
Then in 1938, the Haitian government has renegotiated because the Bank of France demanded 20% interest, and we had to renegotiate a 3% interest, and had refused to pay 150 million. President Jean-Piere Boyer had demanded to France, to accept that Haiti pay only 12 million and it is these 12 million that have been staggered over time. Under the Government of President Salomon, everything had been paid."
