iciHaiti - Security : Definitive withdrawal of peacekeepers from Uruguay

The executive power of Uruguay fixed to 15 April 2017 the date for its definitive withdrawal from the Peace keeping mission in Haiti (Minustah).

The mission was scheduled to end in October 2016, but the United Nations has asked the Government of Uruguay to extend by six months its presence, because of the resumption of the electoral process to elect a President in Haiti.

Rodolfo Nin Novoa, the Uruguayan Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that the request for an extension requested by the UN was accepted and the cost of moving of the remaining 200 Uruguayan troops in Haiti will be for them.

Recall that Uruguay is present in the UN mission in Haiti since 2004. Ten years later, a process of withdrawal of forces from Uruguay began, bringing the number from 1,100 to 200.
