Haiti - FLASH : Make a donation to support the revival of livestock
Following the passage of Hurricane Matthew on Haiti in early October, it is estimated that 70% of the livestock, in the most affected departments, has been lost. The resumption of the livestock activities by the peasant families affected in Haiti is an absolute urgency for them to become autonomous again.

The NGO Veterimed in partnership with a coalition of six Haitian institutions and associations (Quisqueya University, Veterimed, Notre Dame University, Koral, the National Network of Veterinary Agents (INTERVET) and the National Federation of Haitian Milk Producers (FENAPWOLA )) has launched a call for donations to enable peasant families to rebuild some of the lost livestock. This approach has been endorsed by the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Federation of Mayors (FENAM) of Haiti.

Veterimed explains "[...] With two adult goats ready to breed, a family can have 4 to 6 goats in the first year. Previous experiences inspired by the traditional 'caretaking' system have shown that in one year, those who had received 2 goats were able to donate two goats to another beneficiary, a practice that maintains a sense of responsibility and solidarity. In the second year, a family that has increased its flock to 4 goats can expect annual incomes 3 to 4 times higher than the initial investment [...]"
