iciHaiti - Security : New building of the Hydro-meteorological Service
This Thursday, Petteri Taalas, the Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), accompanied by Mary Power, Director of Development Department and Regional Activities of the WMO, arrived in Haiti.

On Friday, along with officials from the Government of Haiti, he will inaugurate the new Haiti Hydro-Meteorological Service (UHM) building built under the project "Climate Services for Vulnerability Reduction in Haiti", funded by Canada to the tune of $6.5 million and carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture.

This infrastructure will allow to improve the warning services and of prevention of natural disaster risks, contributing to the reduction of loss of life and property damage in Haiti.

During his visit to Haiti (25-27 May), the Secretary-General Taalas will meet with the Haitian authorities to analyze ways to improve the Haitian hydro-meteorological services and the appropriate action to put in place once the building put into operation, which is provided for the end of 2017
