iciHaiti - Environment : Workshop on Land Degradation in the Country

Yesterday, the Ministry of the Environment and its partners launched a workshop on the development of strategies for neutrality on land degradation.

"This workshop, among other things, reflects the commitment of the Republic of Haiti through the Ministry of Environment to deliberately respect its commitment to the resolutions of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. It will also allow us to reflect on indicators and measures to reverse the trend of land degradation in Haiti," said Nicole Yolette Altidor, Director General of the Ministry of the Environment.

Eder Audate the Focal Point of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), which is also the Director of Forestry and Renewable Energy in the Ministry, says that "[...] the distribution of land in Haiti is high variability due to geomorphology and large variations in rainfall," adding "erosion and runoff are complex phenomena [...] that is why the country is ready to validate a land degradation reference document in Haiti."
