iciHaiti - Social : The defender of the rights of United Nations victims in Haiti
Jane Connors, the United Nations Victims Rights Defender [the first woman to hold the position], visiting Haiti from April 22 to 26, met Monday morning with the Working Group dedicated to protection against sexual exploitation and abuse. This Group which is composed of the Minujusth but also Agencies, Funds and Programs of the United Nations present in Haiti meets every month to coordinate the action of the United Nations family for an effective response of the country team on the subject including prevention, implementation of the zero tolerance policy and support for victims. An opportunity to take stock of the Organization's initiatives around the world and in Haiti in terms of conduct and discipline.

Jane Connors also met with Haitian Chancellor Antonio Rodrigue on the same day to discuss the UN's zero tolerance policy, which aims to increase support for victims of exploitation and abuse.

Recall that in this context, Brigadier General Georges-Pierre Monchotte, gathered around the same table the heads of departments, the commanders of formed police units, the heads of contingents and the women's network of the police component to give them pocket cards to raise awareness about sexual exploitation and abuse. These are distributed to all staff, whether police or civilian, and are translated into the predominantly spoken languages within the mission, so that all receive the same message: "There are no excuse" In addition to a reminder of the principles of the United Nations zero tolerance policy on sexual exploitation and abuse, each card contains the contact number of the mission's conduct and discipline team to facilitate the process of reporting of allegations.
