iciHaiti - Photos : Exhibition «KAZAL : Memoirs of a massacre under Duvalier»

On this 50th anniversary of the tragic massacre of Kazal, the Foundation FOKAL and the Kolektif 2D present the exhibition "KAZAL. Memoirs of a massacre under Duvalier : A photographic approach" at Maison Dufort from March 28 to April 16, 2019.

The photographs presented in this exhibition were made by Edine Celestin, Fabienne Douce, Reginald Louissaint Jr., Mackenson Saint-Felix, Moses Pierre and Georges Harry Rouzier, members of the Kolektif 2 dimansyon.

The photographs they have made have in common to make visible to Haitians as well as to the world the multiple and contradictory living memories of one of the major tragic events in modern Haitian history : the massacre of Kazal in 1969, under the dictatorship of François Duvalier.

For the photographers as well as the subjects photographed, it was a real encounter with the history and the troubled past of Haiti which, to this day, has not yet been assumed; it was also a long and complex personal journey, where the photographers had to trick with social, cultural and geographical barriers : they, city dwellers of the capital to meet the Kazalais, most of them, farmers of the earth.

In addition to this exhibition, this long-term work has also enabled the production of a book published by André Frère publisher, who will be present at the exhibition before an official launch later this year.

Exhibition : From March 28 to April 16, 2019 at Maison Dufort : 9, Second Street of Work, Port-au-Prince.

Opening : March 28, 2019 at 6:00 pm. as part of Jeudis de l'art contemporain.

End : April 16, 2019 at 6:00 pm.

Opening hours : Monday-Friday from 4:00 pm. at 7.00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday : from noon to 6.00 pm (Presence of photographers at 4.00 pm)
