iciHaiti - Environment : Preparation of the 2nd day of national reforestation
The Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of National Education are busy launching Friday, May 24, the second day of national mobilization planting seedlings through schools in the country.

Several thousand students are already mobilized for this activity across 5 departments : North (Accul du Nord), Southeast Est (Les Cayes Jacmel, La Vallée and Marigot), Center (Lascahaobas), Artibonite (Petite Rivière Bayonnais) and NorthEast (Fort-liberté).

This activity, which is part of the implementation of the reforestation project, will enable schoolchildren to plant more than 43,000 fruit and forest seedlings.

According to Rony Horat, Head of the Directorate of Education, Inspection and Environmental Monitoring, it is essential to engage young people in the management and protection of the environment. For him, "bequeathing to future generations this heritage represented by forest resources, is an act of love and faith in the future."

Faced with increasing deforestation fueled by excessive consumption of wood, the Haitian government through the Ministry of Environment and National Education, believes that work must be done at the base, in classrooms. The aim of this program is to develop responsible behavior and values among young schoolchildren in favor of the preservation of the environment.
