iciHaiti - Press : A freedom of speech that continues to reduce

On Friday, during the Latin American Press Day, the Ministry of Communication praised "the courage of all the members of the Media Corporation who, despite the difficulties they face every day in the exercise of their profession, continue to fulfill their mission of informing the population."

The Ministry emphasizes that "fortunately, in Haiti, freedom of speech and of the press are now acquired, of inalienable rights that signify our collective consciousness of the people."

However, beyond the demagogy, it is good to remember that this freedom of speech "inalienable" according to the Ministry, continues to be reduced in Haiti.

Recall that in the 2019 World Ranking of Reporters Without Borders (RSF) which analyzes the situation of freedom of the press in 180 countries, Haiti retreated 2 places compared to 2018 and was 62nd out of 180 countries. Between 2014 and 2019, Haiti moved from 47th place (2014) to 62nd place (2019), recording a decrease of 15 places. https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-27513-icihaiti-rsf-2019-freedom-of-the-press-haiti-backs-15-places-in-5-years.html
