iciHaiti - DR : 1.138 Haitians deported in 5 days

The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) informs that it carried out from 1 to 5 July migration control operations in 9 provinces : Valverde, Azua, Santiago de los Caballeros, Bávaro, Villa Vásquez, Montecristi, Puerto Plata, Hermanas Mirabal and Dajabón as well as in the National District and Santo Domingo North and East during which 1,343 Haitian nationals were controlled.

The migratory control teams were composed of inspectors, agents of the DGM) with the support of the military, the National Police, the body specialized in the security of tourism (CESTUR) in coordination with the Public Ministry of the concerned Provinces.

After the verification process using biometric readers and the central database, 1,138 compatriots (84.7%) did not have legal documents allowing them to remain in Dominican territory and were declared in an irregular migration situation. They were taken to the border posts of Dajabón and Elías Piña, to be registered and deported to Haiti after warning the authorities of the neighboring country.

Lieutenant General Máximo William Muñoz Delgado, Director General of the DGM, warned that he would continue relentlessly the migratory control operations of all foreigners living illegally on Dominican territory.
