iciHaiti - DR : 23,941 Haitians repatriated in the first quarter
The Directorate General of Migration (DGM) continues its operations of massive repatriations of Haitians on the Haitian-Dominican border.

During the first quarter of 2019, 23,941 Haitians have been repatriated including 79 unaccompanied minors, and 265 returned voluntarily were identified by the Support Group for Repatriated and Refugees (GARR) at official and unofficial border points.

According to data collected by GAAR, Haitians repatriated during the first three months of the year lived between 3 months and 5 years in the Dominican Republic, the majority of them in the cities of San Juan de la Maguana, Barahona , Higuey, San Pedro de Macoris, Las Matas and Santo Domingo.

At the same time, it was noted that the unofficial border points of Ouanaminthe / Dajabón, many of which are in Ferrier commune, welcomed the most repatriated compatriots with a total of 10,844.

The official border of Carisal / Elias Piña (Center) comes in second position with a strength of 6,830 followed by the official point Ouanaminthe / Dajabón with 6,089.

The GARR states that these data are not exhaustive because of the inability of the organization to be present in all unofficial border points and secondly by the renewal of Haitian migrants at the border outside the scheduled hours by the Memorandum of Understanding on Repatriation Mechanisms.
