iciHaiti - Justice : Training of magistrates on the judicial treatment of minor children
As part of the project "Access to justice and the fight against impunity in Haiti", Lawyers Without Borders Canada (LWBC), in collaboration with the School of the Judiciary, about twenty judges from all over the country, a dozen lawyers, a few minor brigadiers of the National Police of Haiti (PNH), representatives of the Institute of Social Welfare and Research and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST), during 4 days were trained by 8 Haitians and a Quebecer, with the aim of strengthening the capacity of judges and lawyers on the use of national and international legal tools concerning the rights of minors.

Marie-Philip Métivier, LWBC's legal counsel, said she was very satisfied with this training, which notably addressed the challenges related to the situation of children in Haiti, child domestic service, prolonged pre-trial detention, the question of orphanages, the role of judges and lawyers in the protection of children, the importance of ethics and deontology, interviewing techniques with a child/minor victim in conflict with the law and techniques of interrogation and cross-examination of a minor child.
