iciHaiti - Culture : The work of Haitian poet Roussan Camille will fall into the public domain in 2021
The Haitian Copyright Office / Ministry of Culture (BHDA/MCC) in a notice informs the general public, publishers, producers, screenwriters, users of copyrighted content in particular, that the work of the Haitian poet Roussan Camille (1902- 1961) will fall into the public domain in 2021.

This decision is in accordance with the provisions of article 20 of the Decree in force on copyright in Haiti : "Patrimonial rights in a work are protected for the life of the author and 60 years after his death."

Poet, Journalist and Diplomat, Roussan Camille remains and remains one of the outstanding figures of Haitian letters.

Roussan Camille was born on August 27, 1912 in Jacmel. He began his professional life in the editorial staff of Charles Moravia's newspaper, Le Temps. He was appointed editor-in-chief of Haiti-Journal, the daily newspaper of the Head of State Sténio Vincent. Under this same government, he was named, shortly after, first secretary of the Haitian Legation in Paris. In 1940, just before the outbreak of the Second World War, he returned to Haiti via Casablanca in Morocco, a port city which inspired the poem Nedje. Then in 1945, he was invited to cover United Nations organizational meetings in San Francisco. He became a senior official in the ministries of public education, public health and then tourism. In 1946, President Dumarsais Estime appointed him secretary general of the 1949 Port-au-Prince International Exhibition. Dividing his time between Port-au-Prince and Havana, with third-globalist and leftist writers, he wrote his poem Havana in 1953. Coming to power in 1959, Fidel Castro salutes his poetry which speaks of the proletarians and pariahs of the world. Among his works it can be mentioned: "Assault at night", "Gerbe pour deux Amis", "Soutiers negres", "Nedje", "Heures inachevées"... Roussan Camille died on December 7, 1961 in Port-au-Prince.
