iciHaiti - France : Haitian writer Dalembert new holder of the Writer's Chair

The French Embassy in Haiti warmly congratulates the writer Louis-Philippe Dalembert, new holder of the Writer-in-Residence Chair of the Center for Writing and Rhetoric at Sciences Po for the first semester of 2021.

Writer Louis-Philippe Dalembert was born in Port-au-Prince and lives in Paris.

Dalembert worked as a journalist in Haiti before continuing his studies at the University of Paris-III - Sorbonne Nouvelle, where he obtained a doctorate in comparative literature on the Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier.

He has published since 1993 with various publishers in France and Haiti, around twenty novels, essays, short stories and poetry: (au Serpent à plumes from 1993: Le Songe d'une photo d'enfance), poetry , essays (at Philippe Rey / Culturesfrance in 2010, with Lyonel Trouillot: Haiti, une traversée littéraire) and novels (les derniers en date, au Mercure de France: Noires blessures in 2011 and Ballade d'un amour inachevé in 2013). Visiting professor in various American universities, he was a resident of the Villa Medici (1994-1995), writer in residence in Jerusalem and Berlin, and was the recipient of numerous prizes including the RFO prize in 1999, the Casa de las Américas prize in 2008 and the Thyde Monnier prize from SGDL in 2013.

Louis-Philippe Dalembert now lives between Berlin, Paris and Port-au-Prince. He was made Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2010, and obtained the 2019 French Language Prize.

His novel Mur Méditerranée, tragedy on immigration published in 2019 https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-29830-icihaiti-literature-louis-philippe-dalembert-vying-for-the-prix-les-afriques-2020.html , has earned him numerous awards (including two Choix Goncourt) and a nomination among the novels for the Sciences Po Student Literary Prize.
