iciHaiti - Anse-à-Pitre : A truck driver loses control, 15 victims

Friday afternoon the driver of a truck loaded with goods returning from the binational border market, carrying Haitians as passengers on top of the goods, lost control of his vehicle which overturned on the road to Anse-à-Pitre.

The toll is heavy, 4 dead and 11 injured including 2 in critical condition. He is a 14-year-old minor who suffered a head trauma with an upper jaw fracture, and a 70-year-old woman with a facial head trauma and multiple lacerations who were taken to Dr Jaime Mota regional university hospital in Barahona.

The 9 other light polytrauma injuries were taken to Dr Elio Fiallo hospital (in Pedernales), where they were treated. Several have already been able to leave the hospital.

Among the wounded whose identities are known are: Ramone Alexandre (70); Milene Lois (39); Naomie Pierre Lois (33); Claris Alexandre (52); Rosenie Simite (39); Lora Andonie (75).

The driver of the truck, who was not injured, was arrested by the Haitian authorities according to our sources.
