Overview of Business Registrations (2024–2026) in Haiti
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) presents a report on business registrations recorded from December 2024 to October 16, 2026, highlighting trends in registrations and their geographical distribution across the country. These statistics provide insight into registration trends, territorial distribution, and the primary hubs of commercial activity. They serve as a reference tool for monitoring the sector and guiding the Ministry’s initiatives to promote the formalization and development of economic activities in Haiti. In total, 19,720 self-employed business owners were registered during the period in question. For the first nine months of 2026, the number of registrations reached 9,006, compared to 8,363 for the same period in 2025—an increase of 7.8%. The month of March 2026 saw the highest number of registrations, with 1,282 new entries. The breakdown by department reveals a high concentration in the West department, which accounts for 13,222 registrations, or 67% of the total. The figures for the other departments are as follows : North : 1,456 registrations (7.4%) South : 978 (5%) Artibonite: 860 (4.4%) North-East: 730 (3.7%) South-East : 484 (2.5%) Center : 425 (2.2%) North-West : 367 (1.9%) Grand'Anse : 293 (1.5%) Nippes : 221 (1.1%) Furthermore, 684 registrations (3.5%) are not yet associated with a department. At the municipal level, Delmas leads with 5,136 registrations, followed by Pétion-Ville (3,659), Port-au-Prince (1,281), Tabarre (1,102), Cap-Haïtien (1,026), Carrefour (567), Les Cayes (459), and Croix-des-Bouquets (451). Together, Delmas and Pétion-Ville account for 45% of the recorded registrations. Through this initiative, the MCI reaffirms its determination to continue and strengthen its efforts toward the formalization of business activities (https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-48692-regional-caravan-toward-the-formalization-of-5-000-businesses-in-haiti.html), the improvement of monitoring for economic actors, and the modernization of the sector. This approach reflects the Ministry’s commitment to promoting a more structured economic environment, facilitating the integration of operators into the formal system, and providing sustainable support for the development of commerce and entrepreneurship in Haiti.
