On Saturday January 1, 2022, at 4:42 and 25 seconds in the afternoon, an earthquake with a magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale was recorded at sea 16 kilometers north-northeast of Jérémie (Dept. Grand'Anse)

The epicenter was located at 18.787° North latitude and 74.058° West longitude at a depth of 10 kilometers 110 km northwest of Miragoâne (dept. Nippes), 48km northeast of Dame-Marie (Grand'Anse).

So far, the Technical Seismology Unit (UTS) of the Bureau of Mines and Energy (BME) has not issued its report and the regional office of the Directorate of Civil Protection has not reported any damage nor loss of life.
