Clashes between the "400 Mawozos" and "Chen Mechan" gangs intensified on Thursday in the Butte Boyer neighborhood in Plaine du Cul-de-Sac

Several special units of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) have been conducting a vast anti-gang operation since Thursday to try to put out of harm's way the armed bandits who sow grief and terror in the population.

According to testimonies from residents in the combat zones, armed individuals executed citizens in their homes in cold blood, burned the bodies of the victims, set fire to houses and raped women and girls.

During the police operations, several gang members were killed, injured and others arrested. Three police officers were injured during the numerous exchanges of fire with armed bandits, confirmed Divisional Inspector Garry Desrosiers, Spokesperson for the National Police of Haiti (PNH), adding that police officers assigned to several specialized units supported by the armed forces of Haiti, were deployed on the ground, in order to restore order in the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac, in particular in Butte-Boyer, Shadda, Croix-des-Missions and Santo.

Garry Desrosiers, who praised the courage of the inhabitants of the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac, announced new operations in this area.
