On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, following a 45-minute closed-door meeting between President Luis Abinader and United States Department of State Undersecretary Wendy Sherman, Presidential Spokesperson Homer Figueroa in a press conference gave some details.

The President repeated that we can neither demand nor ask more of his country [...]" reiterating that there is no Dominican solution to the socio-political crisis in Haiti, and that international intervention is essential for the improvement of the situation of the neighboring country.

Figueroa said that Sherman's reaction to Abinader's questioning of the Dominican Republic's participation in the Haitian solution was "positive" and she took the opportunity to reiterate the position of the United States, which is to help "build this international consensus to help Haiti."
