Monday despite the border closure that prevents the trade of food and other goods to Haiti from the Dominican Republic, customs authorities in Ounamonthe authorized the entry of food products and other items in small quantity on its territory.

The crossing of goods to Haiti by the bridge is done through a small gate that the authorities keep open to allow access to Haitians who are in the province of Dajabón and who wish to return to their country, a flexibility which they take advantage of to enter with food and other goods for which they will have to pay taxes in Haiti under penalty of seizure....

Haitians seeking to avoid paying taxes, when they arrive at the border bridge, throw their goods to accomplices waiting under the bridge, who collect them and cross the Massacre River with the goods in hand to Haiti. If they are caught, the offenders risk arrest by the Haitian authorities...
